You Could Be Seeing More San Diego Live/Work Options
San Diego officials are spending this year frivolously working on creative and innovative ideas on how to ease the pressure of the housing crisis happening around the county.
What It’s Like Right Now in Metro San Diego
In the metro area, the lack of middle to low-income housing is where we feel the need the most. This month, the city has decided to ease the restrictions on live/work units around the city. This is to encourage small business owners to live in the same place as they work.
Times are Changing
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported recently that “A council committee this week unanimously approved shrinking the minimum size for a live-work space from 750 square feet to 500 square feet, and increasing the portion of a live-work space that can be residential from 33 percent to 49 percent.”
Will this Make a Difference?
This isn’t going to make a huge dent in our housing crisis, but let us be clear, at this point, every change we make, is an important change and we have to commend our city leaders for their leadership and willingness to bring these unique ideas to fruition.
